New RCG CUPS/Samba Server rcga-bluebell.dc.sfu.ca¶
The Research Computing Group has a new CUPS/Samba server rcga-bluebell.dc.sfu.ca in SFU Cloud. This is meant to replace our old rcg-bluebell.rcg.sfu.ca CUPS/Samba server. The old CUPS/Samba server is due to be retired by the end of August, 2020.
Our Puppet and Ansible configuration management systems will be pushing out the new CUPS server change to all of our Linux clients over the next few days.
Active Directory Group Policy Objects will need to be changed to tell Windows clients to use the new Samba server for printer shares.
(We in the RCG will change the GPOs that we have write access to. Other OU admins such as CSTS and ESTS will need to change their GPOs.)
For more information on printing via CUPS and Samba, please see Printing.
Windows home directory shares and research data shares will also need to be changed in Active Directory Group Policy Objects to use the new Samba Server. (Except for some research data shares that are still backed by NFSv3. They need to remain on the old Samba server until they are converted to NFSv4.)
(Again, we in the RCG will change the GPOs that we have write access to. Other OU admins such as CSTS and ESTS will need to change their GPOs.)
For more information on filesharing via NFS and Samba, please see File Sharing.
