Advanced Research Computing

Simon Fraser University hosts Cedar, one of the largest general purpose supercomputers in Canada. As a member of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, SFU researchers have access to large-scale computing resources and large-scale storage facilities. Service is provided through the Digital Research Alliance of Canada and it is free for all researchers.

The Digital Research Alliance of Canada is a national organization that is helping coordinate and promote the expansion and use of high performance computing in Canada. The organization is responsible for the operation of high performance computing (HPC), collaboration and visualization infrastructure across Canada. It encompasses 5 partner institutions across British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, and SFU is one of these.

All computing resources are shared among the member institutions, i.e., researchers at SFU get access to compute facilities across Canada with several thousands of processors (cores) and storage facilities of several petabytes (PB). See the Digital Research Alliance of Canada for more details.
