Research Software

Research Software is fundamental to achieving research outcomes and the SFU Research Computing Group and its Research Development Team have an ever increasing role in helping researchers make new discoveries and share their outputs with others.

By connecting the researcher to a software developer that can assist with utilising the platforms, tools, and technologies available, we give the researchers at SFU the ability to instead focus on developing the next novel set of ideas to move our world ahead with the peace of mind that their software is developed using the best tools and practises available.

Research software platforms are typically made up of tools that enable research by facilitating the manipulation of all types of research data. They can also support collaboration and the sharing of ideas and promote the adoption of open science principles and practices because the functionality of software to support research is often similar, even across different research disciplines.

Many researchers don’t have the resources to manage software development teams and are unaware of the various research software that already exists and could be easily adapted to meet their needs. To serve this need, our expert software team work directly with SFU researchers. These dedicated, full-time research software developers are available to support all researchers at SFU, regardless of discipline, and provide guidance, training, expertise, and software development specific to advancing research projects.
